Rebeca was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, to a musical family.
Her sisters, Loyda and Jocabed, play the violin and the flute,
respectively, and while growing up, they played often at home
and at church.
Rebeca's first piano instruction came from her mother. When
she was five, she prepared her to play two Christmas Carols at
her Kindergarten's festival. When she was six she started taking
lessons with Emilia Zamora and studied with her for eight years.
At fifteen, Rebeca auditioned to study under Juilliard
graduate, pianist Sergio Peña, and studied with him for five
years. During this time she participated in solo recitals and
was the pianist of the Laredo Philarmonic Chorale under Terence
Frazor.
The Summer of 1994, Rebeca attended the St. Petersburg
Conservatory in Russia and studied with Nadezda Eismont,
completing a Piano Masterclass Course. The following summer she
attended the Rachmaninoff's College of Music in Tambov, Russia,
and performed in their festival as well.
In June of 1995, while a student of Valeri Grokhovski at the
University of Texas in San Antonio, Rebeca was a finalist at the
Third Annual Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Corpus
Christi, Texas, and placed 2nd in her class. Rebeca
completed her studies at the University of North Texas.
Through the years, Rebeca has participated in recitals as
soloist and accompanist of instrumental and vocal soloists. Most
of her performances have been in Texas and Mexico.
From 2000 - 2003, Rebeca lived in Basalt, Colorado, with her
husband Andrew Anderson. There she
taught private piano and was part of the Waldorf School on the
Roaring Fork and Alpine Christian Academy. Her involvement in
different aspects of early childhood education gave her the
opportunity to work with hundred of children in the Roaring Fork
Valley.
In June 2003, Rebeca and Andrew moved to Las Cruces, NM,
where Rebeca continued to give private piano lessons for all
ages and also accompanied voice students at the University of
New Mexico for practice and recitals. Since Rebeca is also
certified by the Center for Music and Young Children, of
Princeton, NJ, as a center director for Music
Together® classes, she offered the community of Las Cruces
this cutting-edge, research-based early-childhood music
program for infants, toddlers, and kindergartners.
Rebeca is pleased to come back to Laredo, Texas, where her
parents reside, to continue using her talents in teaching
young children and their care-givers to enjoy Music
Together®. She is also giving piano lessons and using her
musical talents for the enjoyment of various audiences.
