A Word About Pianos and Brand Names
by Andrew Anderson
As you may or may not realize, many
brand-name pianos are simply stenciled with a brand name purchased from
the former owner of a defunct manufacturer with a good reputation. In
some cases the same piano design coming off the assembly line is
stenciled with different brand names and sold with different pricing
schedules. The purchased brand names often have nothing to do with the
historic design or quality that was associated with that brand name.
Thus it is wise for purchasers not to just rely on the "reliable brand
names" when looking for a quality piano. Find out who actually makes the
piano and how well the piano rates in comparison to its competitors.
Modern piano manufacture has become a multi-national industry where parts
from manufacturers in many countries are assembled into a cabinet in yet
another country. This is true for both inexpensive and expensive pianos.
Commitment to quality and selection of a good design are what set pianos
apart today. Carl
Sauter pianos
and Bösendorfer
pianos are refreshing examples of piano makers who have
not allowed modern trends to erode the quality of their products. Carl
Sauter pianos are still manufactured in Germany to the highest German
standards.
In my experience as piano technician I
have also been disappointed in the quality of current pianos offered by
the company generally
recognized as the quality piano manufacturer in North America, finding that
new pianos sent out to customers did not meet the manufacturers' own
specifications and were sometimes impossible to repair sufficiently to
meet these specifications. Carl Sauter pianos are a refreshing contrast
to the modern trend, offering genuine, old-fashioned quality in design
and manufacture.
We are pleased to offer two Carl Sauter models in
our Piano Boutique:
One Carl Sauter
Omega 220 model in high-polish ebony.
One Carl Sauter Delta
Noblesse (185 cm) model in polished burl walnut.
Other modles may be ordered from the company.
